History of Logo


Derived from the word logos, type (Merriam-Webster Dictionary), is a letter or a plate that has meaning Printed, commonly used as the newspaper’s name or emblem (1816).

In its development, Logo Design deformed shapes ranging from forms a complex logo design to be a simple form and easy to remember. Various options-elements increases, too, range from the use of initials, company name, monogram or pictogram. Along with the development of advertising, logo design role becomes very important especially in the manufacture of a product branding strategy. Identity function is a measure of a logotype, with just seeing the logo someone will remember, interested, and then buy. From this function, the design logo later became the size of an image, whether the image of a product, company or organization.

Types & Type Logo

In the early days of development, the distribution of the logo design is not as complicated now. At first just a logo design of the unspoken as images, made by craftsmen for the royal emblem. Along with the development era, the logo design is not only used for the benefit of the kingdom only, but to signal to the goods sold in the market.

The division of the logo is simply divided into two parts namely Word Marks or Brand Name logos is composed of spoken forms, and Device Marks or Brand Mark are composed of an unspoken form. Logo can also consist of both, which is a combination of brand name and brand mark. For example is the brand name for Sony logo is only composed of words Sony, and the Shell logo to mark the brand image is composed of shells. Meanwhile, blend the two is like Djarum cigarette logo, which consists of text and images Djarum needles.

Then with the increasing number of products on the market, and the market characteristics emerged a completely different type of logo design, which is basically a blend of two types of logo designs above.
